Remedial gymnastics is a system of sport tools that are intended for prophylaxis, treatment and rehabilitation. It means that remedial gymnastics can help

» to strengthen locomotor system, i.e. muscles, bones, joints and ligaments to prevent their's injureis and diseases;
» to provide with the most effective treatment of diseases and injuries of locomotor system;
» to restore functional abilities after prolonged treatment.

Remedial gymnastics affects both directly and mediately on different systems of organism simultaneously. It differs from other kinds of physical culture as the last one differs from professional sport. All of these kinds of training use physical exercises, but each of them has its own extent and also the goal. The same exercise may be used for prophylaxis, treatment and rehabilitation of a patient as well as for national team training. Precise dosage of physical exercises according to diagnosis and other individual features of each person is the main peculiarity of remedial gymnastics

About physiotherapy

AchondroplasiaPhysiotherapy presumes to use effects of physical factors for treatment and rehabilitation. Advantages of physiotherapy usually consider to be an alternative to pharmacotherapy despite of wide applying of complex of both pharmacy and physiotherapeutic factors.

Advantages of using physiotherapy:

» considerably increases variety of healing effects and reduces period of treatment
» does not cause allergy and drug disease
» enhances effects of the most of drugs
» enlarges remittence of chronic diseases
» no drug dependence
» healing effects appear to be smooth
» medical methods are noninvasive

Methods of physiotherapy blend well with hyperbaric oxygenation, curative gymnastics, reflexotherapy and may be applied in complex therapy and rehabilitation of patients with different pathology.

AchondroplasiaScientific investigations, that are carried out in our Center, allow us to optimize some physiotherapeutic procedures regarding to theirs application conjointly with transosseous osteosynthesis. At the beginning of postoperative period after Ilizarov device installation physiotherapeutic methods promote prevention of posttraumatic inflammation development and dystrophic disturbances, favour in restoration of physiologic processes in injured tissues, decongestion, pain reducing or its elimination, improvement of patient's general condition.
At the second week after operation treatment of patients with devices for external fixation of bone segments is directed on stimulation of angiogenesis and microcirculation in injured region, prevention of osteoporosis and muscle's atrophy of operated limb, pain reduction. During the stage of fixation of operated limb methods of physiotherapy promote improvement of metabolic processes and blood supply of limb tissues. At the subsequent stage of fixation and after Ilizarov device removement physiotherapeutic measures promote stimulation of reparative osteogenesis and organotypic restructuring of regenerated bone, mineral metabolism normalization, pain reduction.

The goal of the dept. of physiotherapy is enhancing of quality of treatment and reducing of rehabilitation period. It is attained by solving the following problems:
» treatment of pain syndrome,
» prevention of rough scarring,
» prophylaxis and treatment of edemata of soft tissues,
» prophylaxis and treatment of trophic disturbances,
» preservation of vitality of denervated tissues and limbs,
» enhancing of regeneration of bone tissue, nerves, soft tissues, etc.
Limb LengtheningIn our dept. are used: galvanization and electrophoresis, amplipulse therapy, transcranial electroanalgesia, electrostimulation of paretic muscles and nerves, including applying of epineural and epidural electrodes and interstitial electrostimulation, UHF-therapy, shortwave-frequency therapy, magnetotherapy, IR-, UV-radiation, laser therapy, vibrotherapy, ultrasonic therapy, heat-therapy, aerohydromassage, aromatherapy and also combined methods of physiotherapy including multifunctional recreational hydrofusion capsule SPA-JET Dermalife.Physicians of our dept. permanently apply new methods of physiotherapy in patients with transosseous osteosynthesis, develop and apply into practice complexes of physiotherapeutic measures, destined for adaptation and correction of known methods and technique of carrying out procedures in adults and in infants.

About hyperbaric oxygenation

The Centre's department for HBO was established in 1999 and is equipped with three one place barochambers.

The treatment with the method of hyperbaric oxygenation using excessive oxygen pressure enables us to raise the efficiency of complex treatment of the patients undergoing Ilizarov surgeries in cases of trauma and orthopaedic pathology, vascular and neurological disorders.

HBO is included into intensive care of various critical conditions associated with shock, polytrauma, and blood loss but the everyday procedures is planned treatment.

HBO is indicated for acute fractures in the cases of serious disorders in blood supply in the injured limb segment that affect formation of bone callus due to the severe fracture type, location, age, associated diseases. These are the following conditions:
» open and closed multiple fractures of the skeleton;
» open and closed multifragmental and double fractures;
» fractures that are accompanied by extensive soft tissue, nerve and vascular damage
The HBO method is used to normalize the reparative process in delayed unions, osteomyelitic infection if there is a good outflow of the discharge from the wound.

In open limb fractures accompanied by extensive wounds and skin exfoliation, the HBO method is included into the complex of treatment procedures in early period after trauma for prevention of infection.

In order to activate the metabolism and decrease hypoxia, the procedures of HBO are performed by gradual limb lengthening not only in adults but also in children with congenital and acquired conditions.

HBO can be also included into the complex of preoperative preparation and rehabilitation period after reconstructive operations in vessels, during conservative treatment of chronic disorders in peripheral arteries, into management of closed craniocerebral injuries, ischemic brain strokes, polyneuropathy of traumatic or toxic genesis, and degenerative diseases of the spine and joints.
